Creating Templates
Build your first reusable onboarding blueprint.
A template is a reusable blueprint for an onboarding plan. You define your standard stages, tasks, and notification settings once. When you create a plan for a new customer, you select the template and everything is pre-populated automatically.
Without templates: you manually recreate the same tasks for every new customer. With templates: new customer plans are ready in seconds.

💡 Tip: Start with 3-4 stages and 8-12 tasks. You can always edit the template later.

Common stage structures used by CS teams:
- Standard SaaS: Kickoff → Setup → Training → Go-Live
- Enterprise: Discovery → Procurement → Technical Setup → Pilot → Rollout
- Quick start: Activate → Configure → First Value
- Re-onboarding: Review → Migration → Launch
💡 Tip: Match your stage names to how you talk about onboarding internally. Consistency with your team's language helps adoption.

Editing and Managing Templates
Keep your templates up to date.
⚠️ Note: Changes to a template do NOT affect existing plans. Only new plans created from the template after the change will use the updated version.

You can have as many templates as you want on all paid plans. The Free plan allows up to 3 templates.
Common examples of multiple templates:
- "Standard SaaS Onboarding" — for typical customers
- "Enterprise Implementation" — for complex, multi-team rollouts
- "Quick Start" — for self-serve customers needing minimal hand-holding
- "Re-onboarding" — for customers upgrading to a new product version
